How to Make Homemade Alfredo Sauce

Alfredo pasta is one of my family’s favorite meals. Getting this meal at a restaurant is costly – which is crazy given how inexpensive it is to make.

In an ongoing effort to learn how to make all the good things we love at home, this homemade alfredo sauce does not disappoint. For less than $10, I have a whole pot of sauce on the table for the whole family, doctored up exactly how we like it.

This alfredo sauce has 8 all-natural ingredients.

Besides the heavy whipping cream, chances are you have everything already in your pantry. This recipe makes enough for a few hearty helpings, but because we like our pasta with lots of sauce, I usually double the recipe. I make a goal when I cook to only make just enough for that meal – eliminating leftovers. What’s nice about this alfredo sauce is that it isn’t costly to make, so throwing just a little away is never a big deal to me.

Speaking of leftovers, for this particular meal a single serving of pasta is about 1/2 cup of dry noodles. When cooking pasta for my family, I make 2 cups of dry noodles for my family of 4. This allows everyone to have enough for one full plate. Especially if we add grilled chicken or shrimp to the alfredo, this bulks up the meal, no one is hungry, and no food gets thrown out.

Here are the ingredients:

  • 1 stick unsalted butter (if you have to use salted butter, omit the other salt from the recipe)
  • 3 cups heavy whipping cream
  • 6 ounces cream cheese
  • 6 cloves minced garlic
  • 1-1/2 tsp. garlic powder
  • 1-1/2 tsp. Italian seasoning
  • 3/4 tsp. each salt and pepper
  • 1-1/2 cups parmesan cheese, grated or shredded
